Information about recreation Museum of Remembrance of Repression Victims
Museum of remembrance of repression victims is the only one in CIS countries. It stores everything that is somehow related to repressions and persecutions of the people of Uzbekistan. Suppression of national liberation movement by tsarist Russia, and later by Soviet regime, extermination of the most active and intelligent layer of people under the guise of fight against basmach (rich people) and counterrevolution, compulsion to emigration, Stalin’s repressions – all those sorrowful events have their reflection in the museum’s displays.
They tell about rebellions that were excited on the territory of the region, about the defeat of Kokand autonomy in February 1918, about the movement of djadids – the Central Asian intellectuals, who were engaged in education and enlightenment, the part of whom stood for independence of Turkestan from Russia. Ethnic cleansings, search of internal enemies, GULAG camps, and so-called “cotton case” in 1980-s – all that makes up the pages of history of the republic. Museum of remembrance of repression victims was opened prior to the celebration of the 11th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence– on August 31, 2002.
