Auditorium of this theatre provides 600 seats. It is located in the very center of the city, which is comfortable for spectators, so the tickets for the best seats should be purchased in advance. The plays are staged in Russian language. Repertoire’s foundation is made up by plays of modern Western and Russian authors. There are many comedies: “№13” by R. Kuni, “Weekend” by J. Poiret, “Silvia – a story of a dog” by A. Herny, “Husband on credit” by M. Zadornov, “In the lampshade” by N. Ptushkina, “Tatar the small” by N. Polyarkov and others. Oriental poetry is represented by the play “Secret of a Chinese” on the basis of the great Alisher Navoi’s works. The plays of classical repertoire, such as “Hostess” by C. Goldoni, “Playing Gogol” (based on the play “Marriage”), are performed on the theatre stage in contemporary director’s reading and not always perceived unambiguously.
The majority of the plays are intended on mass audience. Theatre plays are remarkable for the professionalism of the actors, memorable decorations, costumes and musical accompaniment. The theatre was established in 1934, and in 1967 it received a status of Academic Theatre. On February 7, 2001 there was a grand opening of a new building of Russian academic drama theatre.
