The hippodrome lies to the southwest, a short bus ride from Sabir Rakhimov Metro, though Sunday horse racing is a minor diversion to the riotous free market consuming the car park. For regional football clashes visit the 80,000 capacity Pahktakor (Cotton worker) Stadium, beside its eponymous metro. The best swimming pools, including child-friendly facilities, are at Sports Club NBU, 16 Okkurgon St off Pushkin (tel. 684469), plus tennis courts and more. A Turkish-built 'aquapark' (Tashkentland; 3 Mirkhamidov, tel. 2358166) with water slides and roller coasters makes for a fun afternoon, beside the UzExpoCentre on Amir Timur St (metro Bodomzor). US$10 gives you a day's use of outdoor pool and health club at Le Meridien, US$10-15 gets you the same at the Dedeman and US$6 at the Bumi.To the north in the shadow of the TV tower is Savdo Stadium/Yunusabad Tennis Club (tel. 2346981), an example of how Presidential passion has promoted tennis nationwide.Ten pin bowling can be found at Amako Bowling, 24 Oibek St (tel. 554792) and Uz Bowling, 8/1 Uzbekistan Ave (tel 2321784). Try too the Jar tennis/sports club (tel. 494696) beside the Hotel Chorsu. Pool tables can be found downstairs at Mir Burger, off Broadway, and billiards clubs throughout the city (e.g. Stargazer Billiards, 23, Nukus). Golfers can repair to Uzbekistan's first course, the Tashkent Lakeside Golf Club (tel. 2950991), wrapped around Lake Rohat at 1 Bektemir District, a short drive southeast from the city centre.
